ROLE:
β
UX DESIGNER
Tangents is a video chat and community app for folks with ADHD. It is inspired by my own struggles with ADHD, as well as the other people with ADHD in my life. Itβs an app for ADHDers by an ADHDer. Tangents features randomly matched video and text chats, a community forum, and online live events; all to connect those with ADHD and help them feel less alone.
People with ADHD face many, daily barriers that cause stress, anxiety, and, often, a sense of jilted solitude. That feeling of forced isolation often keeps people from seeking help and forming connections with others, and leaves many feeling stuck.
This general feeling really resonated with me and my experience, and I saw it as an opportunity to fill a vacancy for the community.
A mobile app for the ADHD community to connect with each other through chats, forums, and live events. This app would provide the space for users to connect to each other based on mutual interests or concerns, as well as, opportunities to learn more about ADHD and how to use coping skills to make it more manageable. These connections would subsequently help people feel less alone and find their place within community.
As the only UX designer on this project, I wore many hats throughout the design process. Some of the steps I took included:
researching existing apps to support folks with ADHD, and finding what features users were still missing
used said research to draft up paper and digital wireframes of an app that fulfilled user needs, was visually appealing, and easy to use
connected those wireframes to create functioning prototypes and tested those prototypes with users
utilized my findings from my usability studies to create iterations of my prototype designs to create the most effective design
Moving Forward
This project was an excellent practice in combining my learned skills from the Google UX Design course along with my passion for neurodivergent issues.
