In my research for The Gallery app, a common pain point for users was their inability to schedule and learn ahead when they are potentially going to do a tour at an art gallery. The desktop website allows for users to access information about the gallery (i.e. about the art showing at the moment, artist bios, and gallery events) from an internet browser search. The responsive mobile site furthers that accessibility to info by allowing users to view the same information on the go from their phone, without needing to download the app itself
Much of the information at art galleries inaccessible to patrons with visual or cognitive impairments, and often people need to be able to access information ahead of their visits . In-person galleries frequently lack space for all the information patrons may want to know.
Additionally, not everyone wants to download another app just for certain features, so they need a website they can access across all of their devices.
A responsive desktop and mobile website for The Gallery that contains easy access to gallery information across various platforms. This allows people to find events that accommodate their busy schedules, learn information about the pieces and artists ahead of time, and, if they want, access their account easily online to save favorite pieces and artists, and save events.
This was my first attempt at creating a responsive website for the Gallery app, so there were many iterations and attempts to figure out how exactly to convert the app into a website that works across many platforms. Some choices I made for the website were:
designed a new landing screen to clean-up the user flow and provide better access to the log in and settings
adapted fonts and color schemes to make the site more accessible to all people of varying abilities
learned how to re-interpret the design of the mobile app to better fit in a desktop and mobile website formats
Desktop vs. Mobile Site
Moving Forward
This project taught me a lot about the importance of a having a responsive website that can adapt to various devices, so that it can accessible to everyone. It also showed the ways in which a website may be complimentary to an existing app and how different user needs can be taken into consideration across platforms.
